Mortality in elderly patients with intertrochanteric fractures : three years' experience
Aim: To review the mortality rate of patients admitted with intertrochanteric fractures within a period of three years.
Intertrochantenc fractures are common in elderly patients and result in a high morbidity and mortality rate. This article retrospectively reviewed 57 patients (65 years of age and older) admitted with intertrochanteric fractures. Descriptive statistic using the frequency / proportion method was used to interpret the results. The mortality rate In hospital was 14%, in the first year 32%, in the second year 39% and insignificant in the third year.
