This article concentrates on the description and interpretation of two Hindu temples in Johannesburg. These two temples were selected for discussion as being representative of alternatives in the relationship between the form and function of Hindu temples in the relevant environment. These alternatives are identified on the basis of a methodological schema of categories which include physical, psychological, social, cultural and religious co-ordinates.
