Description
Clinical history : A 34 year old male with a long history of rhumatoid arthritis with attack of small and large wrists.
The patient then had a gastrectomy for stomach ulceration after steroid therapy and developed dyspnea which resulted in the diagnosis of a large right pleural effusion with aortic insuffiency.
Autopsy findings : 1. Rhumatoid arthritis.
2. Rhumatoid aortitis with rhumatoid valvitis of the aortic valve.
3. Aortic valve insuffiency with left ventricular hypertrophy and dilation.
4. Rhumatoid nodules in the pericardium.
5. Pericardial effusion with chronic tamponade.
Diagnosis: Rheumatoid aortitis and valvitis of the aortis valve
