Item The Jurriaanse Collection - Inventory(1976)Dr Aart Jurriaanse, a Dutchman, studied medicine in the Netherlands and came to South Africa during the Anglo Boer War with a medical corps in aid of the Boers. He stayed on in South Africa after the war and worked as a general practitioner in the Ermelo district of the old Transvaal where he also farmed until the end of his life. His collection of books covers the classics in literature and medicine.Item Archival listing and Inventory of the Servaas de Kock Collection(2023) Hollamby, TaylaServaas de Kock (1858-1933) was an assistant Surveyor General of the ZAR from 1884 and a surveyor for the department of lands of the Transvaal Colony. He was part of the Transvaal Portuguese demarcation commission in 1894. The collection, comprising personal documents, was donated by the De Kock family in 1960.Item Archival listing and Inventory of the Nusas-Ans Collection(2023) Hollamby, TaylaThis collection was bequeathed by Dirk Willem Rÿk Hertsog (1856-1939), the oldest brother of the South African Prime Minister, General JBM Hertzog, in 1939. The collection consists of one box containing correspondence, agendas, programmes, reports, newspaper clippings, magazines and the manual of the National Union of South African Students between 1927 and 1936, as well as a motivation for the resignation of the University of Pretoria. It also contains correspondence, agendas, minutes, letters and financial documents of the Afrikaans National Student Bond between 1934 and 1936.Item Archival listing and Inventory of the Johannes Anthonius Moesman Collection(2023) Hollamby, TaylaJohannes Anthonius Moesman (1859-1937) was an art printer from Utrecht in the Netherlands. He created a large amount of advertising materials for companies and published media during the time of the ZAR ca. 1890-1899. The collections consists of 16 boxes with photographs, sketches, advertising, newspaper clippings, illustrations, correspondence and cartoons. The collection was purchased from Moesman in 1937.Item Archival listing and Inventory of the Geoffrey Cronje Collection(2023) Hollamby, TaylaProf Geoffrey Cronjé (1907-1992) was a sociologist, criminologist and founder of the Department of Drama at the University of Pretoria. Cronjé donated his collection of documents of the committee on the funding of voluntary welfare organisations (1951-1954) and the Commission regarding undesirable publications (1955) to the University in 1977. The collection consists of 12 boxes.Item Archival listing and Inventory of the Dr Nicolaas Marais Hoogenhout Collection(2023) Hollamby, TaylaDr Nicolaas Marais Hoogenhout (1876-1932) donated this collection 1933. Hoogenhout was very involved in education in the Transvaal Colony from 1904. He was the Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria from 1930 to his death in 1932. The collection consists of one box, mostly on the Eendracht School in Pretoria as well as the education measures of Lord Selbourne.Item Archival listing and Inventory of the ARNDT Manuscript Collection(2023) Hollamby, TaylaThe Arndt Collection was the collection of Prof Ernst Heinrich Daniël Arndt (1899-1983) who was a professor at the University of Pretoria from 1925 to 1942. He became the registrar of banks in 1942, the deputy manager of the Reserve Bank in 1951 and the Director of the Land Bank in 1962. He donated his collection of documents stretching from 1922 to 1977 to the Library of the University in 1978. The collection includes manuscripts, speeches, reports, seminars, letter and notes.Item Natural and Agricultural Sciences - Faculty Specific Material(2023) Haw, NikkiItem Du Plessis Collection Finding Aid(Department of Library Services, University of Pretoria, 2019) Haw, NikkiProf Johannes du Plessis (1868-1935), was a theologian, traveller, missionary and writer. His book collection was purchased by the University in 1939 and is split into an Africana collection, housed in our Africana section and with the call number prefix ZPA; and a Theology collection, housed in Special Collections with the call number prefix ZP. The Mimi Coertse Collection includes sheet music, CDs, and books, as well as personal items such as opera dresses, correspondence, albums, paintings and ephemera. This Finding Aid pertains specifically to the sheet music collection, which comprises music performed by Mimi Coertse over her career.Item Pamphlet Collection Finding Aid (in progress)(2019) ; Haw, Nikki; Mabena, SontoThe Special Collections Pamphlets Collection consists of a wide variety of subjects relating to South Africa and is of important historical value. The collection is not yet comprehensively catalogued, and this finding aid is being created to assist researchers. Please note that this finding aid is an in-progress document and will be regularly updated.Item Archival listing and inventory of the: Jacob de Villiers Roos (JVRoos) [1869-1940] Historical Manuscript Collection(Department of Library Services, University of Pretoria, 2018) De la Harpe, MichelleJacob de Villers Roos (1869-1940) was a journalist, advocate, Secretary of Justice for the Transvaal, Director of Prisons, Auditor-General of the Union of South Africa from 1918-1929, financier and founder of the Transvaal University College and Chairperson of the Mapungubwe Archaelogical Committee from 1934-1938. Roos bequeathed not only his extensive library and Africana book collection, but also his personal document archive to the University of Pretoria.Item F. Z. van der Merwe sheet music collection(1994) Van der Merwe, F.Z.Dr. FZ van der Merwe was a medical doctor with an exceptional interest in the identification, collection and preservation of South African sheet music. His collection, which he bequeathed to the University of Pretoria, now forms the basis of the F Z van der Merwe Sheet Music Collection. However, he also left a sum of money of which the interest is used on an ongoing basis for the further expansion of the collection. Why is this collection not integrated with the rest of the University of Pretoria's music collection? In deference to the wishes of Dr. F Z van der Merwe the collection is maintained separately and made available, under supervision, to researchers only. This collection may rightly be described as the largest and most comprehensive collection of South African sheet music in the world.Item Van Warmelo collection (finding aid)(1989) Van Warmelo, N.J.
