Item Urbanization of developing populations : bearing of rise in privilege on the prevalence of diseases of nutritional deficiency and excess(Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 1975) Walker, A.R.P.No abstract availableItem A preliminary report on 1 402 consecutive autopsies on native mine workers(South African Medical Association, 1929-09-08) Fischer, W.O.No abstract availableItem Biological and disease patterns in South African inter-racial populations as modified by rise in privilege(South African Medical Association, 1972-08-12) Walker, Alexander R.P.Among the 4 ethnic groups in South Africa. populations may be observed in many stages of transition, from primitiveness to sopnistication. With the rise in socioeconomic circumstances, numerous changes have occurred. Those discussed include mortality rate and age structure, diet, growth, blood pressure, various biochemical measurements, physical activity, and disease pattern. The trend of changes implies that in the future, among non-Whites, diseases of nutritional inadequacy, especially protein-calorie malnutrition and pellagra, will decrease and will no longer be public health burdens. Simultaneously, however, there will be increases in conditions or diseases linked with nutritional excess, such as overweight and hypertension. In non-Whites, these and their ramifications are likely in t;me to exact the high tolls of mortality and morbidity from degenerative diseases which prevail in White populations. It is unlikely that recommendations directed at Whites and the affluent moieties of non-Whites will arrest the rising intensity of risk factors to health.Item A study of the health of a pre-school age-group in an African urban community(Oxford University Press, 1959-06) Lewis, J.B.Item Skin disease in the Western Cape Province: a survey the incidence of skin diseases in 2,500 White and 1,500 Coloured patients(Medical Association of South Africa, 1963-12-28) Marshall, James; Heyl, TItem Fetal and early neonatal mortality(South African Medical Association, 1975-06-28) Malan, A.F.; Vader, Christine; Knutzen, V.K.A format setting out and comparing perinatal deaths is presented. It is not new, but has not previously been used in South Africa. Gestational age and birthweight are considered, and group predictions for mortality (and indirectly for morbidity) are made, and can be used for comparison.Item A health study of South African Bantu school children(Medical Association of South Africa, 1944-03-25) Kark, Sydney L.; Le Riche, H.No abstract available.Item Record of 561 consecutive autopsies on native mine workers(South African Medical Association, 1932-06-11) Fischer, W.O.No abstract available.Item The first year of life of the Johannesburg Bantu II : tribal groups and nutrition(South African Medical Journal, 1962-01-27) Griffiths, JoanNo abstract available.Item The first year of life of the Johannesburg Bantu(South African Medical Association, 1960-11-26) Griffiths, JoanNo abstract available.Item Incidence of congenital abnormalities in Cape Town(South African Medical Association, 1966-02-19) Horner, Ruth; Lanzkowsky, PhilipNo abstract availableItem Tumours in Northern Transvaal - an analysis of twenty years' statistics in a country hospital(Medical Association of South Africa, 1927-03) Des Ligneris, M.J.A.No abstract available.Item Epidemiology of cutaneous diseases according to geographical locale : North, Central and South Africa(Excerpta Medica, 1962-09) Marshall, James; XII International Congress of Dermatology (1962: Washington D.C.)Item Item Incidence and distribution of acquired porphyria in Africa(United Business Media, 1963-08) Marshall, JamesNo abstractItem New skin diseases in Africa(St Johns Hospital Dermatological Society, 1970-01) Marshall, JamesNo abstract available.Item The changing pattern of cancer mortality in South Africa(Medical Association of South Africa, 1975-05-31) Bradshaw, Evelyn; Harington, J.S.Cancer mortality rates for Whites, Coloureds and Asians for the period 1949 - 1969 have been analysed, and a changing pattern has been found.
