These two paintings hung above Coetzee's bed and depict Eros and Psyche respectively. Eros, the Greek god of love,
sexual intercourse, cupids, desire and pleasure was married to Psyche - a human girl he fell in love with by
accidentally scratching himself with his arrow which she then touched, sealing their connection and love for one
another.
