Mr JA van Tilburg bequeathed his "prentenkabinet" of over 10 000 graphic works to the University of Pretoria
Bauer toured the whole world and is well known for his prints of Middle Eastern cities. He travelled in Egypt between 1896 and 1898 when he painted the original watercolour painting which is in the collection of the University of Amsterdam. The print was done for P. Zilcken's publication Vereeniging tot bevordering van Beeldende Kunsten, Verzameling JJ Tiele, Amsterdam, 1897.
