The stone terrace walls and steps on the Southern Terrace (the base of Mapungubwe Hill from the south) as exposed in Excavation JS 2b in 1934. A stone terrace wall is visible in the test trench in the foreground. In the middle, a lower terrace wall is covered by a gravel floor, with a stone terrace entrance and steps on top of it. The steps are partially crushed by a collapsed rock on the right. The part of Mapungubwe Hill with the ascent to the top of the hill, hidden by a fig tree, is visible in the background
