Abstract

From the Pearse Collection: photograph depicting the Cape Dutch interior of Groot Constantia. It has a chequered stone floor, and contains various pieces of furniture. These include two gateleg tables, a settee (riempiesbank), two Tulbagh chairs, a kist with bun feet, and two armoires, the one to the left also with bun feet, and probably of an earlier date. To the right of the double doors is what appears to be a bain-marie and from the beamed ceiling hangs a brass chandelier. Photograph probably considered for prof. Geoffrey Pearse's book "Eighteenth Century Furniture in South Africa", but never included.
