Abstract
Description
This is Essay 2 of the Collection of 'Essays on Cognitive Physical Science' in the repository UPSpace of the University of Pretoria.
Essay 2 is essentially a script of a seminar lecture of 18 November 2014, titled "Re-philosofying physical science and other heresies", consisting of an introductory summary, followed by a set of key messages in form of statements, tables, and brief texts. These key messages constitute an update of the Parallel-Systems Mind Model described in Essay 1 (hdl.handle.net/2263/16600).
Essay 2 is a concise report of (1) the author's attempts of updating the Parallel-Systems Mind Model by scavenging the wisdom about mind of the cognitive sciences and of philosophy, and of (2) the author's own approach to overcome of what appeared to be key shortcomings in these fields of study. In the process, some convictions of mainstream cognitive sciences had to be revised so as to meet a physicist's demands, among them mainstream beliefs in the function of consciousness, in conscious self-determination, and about the self. The levels-of-logic hierarchy is introduced as a tool for distinguishing between allowed and disallowed arguments.
