This round tin-glazed white plate with a black enamel covering is decorated with a central panel of a crown, two shields, lilies, palm branches, acorns with dates and an inscription on the cavetto. Above a border of yellow stripes, between two stylized leaf panels there is the inscription “IN MEMORIAM – H.M. DE KONINGIN – MOEDER” on a light blue background on the cavetto. In the centre of this plate a crown and two shields are placed on stylized white lilies and palm branches on which there is a ribbon with the inscription “ JE MAINTIENDRAI – PALMA SUB PONDERE CRESCIT” below which are acorns with the dates “1858, 1879, 1890, 1898 and 1934”. The two shields on this plate are the shield of King Willem III on the left and the shield of Queen Emma on the right. The back of the plate is black with a sunken light blue base marked with the inscription “REGINA, W.B. GOUDA, HOLLAND, ONTW. G.A. BONSEL, No 85” and a crown in underglaze blue. Queen Emma, the second wife of King Willem III of the Netherlands was born on 2 August 1858; she married him in 1879 to become Queen of the Netherlands; King Willem III in 1890 and Queen Emma became Regent for eight years until her daughter Wilhelmina came of age in 1898. The Latin phrases on the ribbon are the phrase of Willem III “We will maintain” and the phrase of Emma “Palm trees grow under pressure”. This plate was deigned by G.A. Bonsel and made by the Kunstaadewerkfabriek Regina in Gouda in 1934.en_ZA
